I was in the gym the other day and someone asked me, “Hey coach, what’s the best thing to eat before training? Or should I eat at all?”

This is a great question because oftentimes you will find yourself strapped for time, rushing out of the office, trying to get to the gym on time, and you don’t really have time to eat a meal. Besides, who wants to train on a full belly? Yuk!

I figured I could make a list to give you some insight as to what you will need for training. You know, or have heard, that your body is like a machine and this machine needs fuel to run. Depending on what fuel you use determines how well this machine will run. Remember, the healthier choices you make, the better your body is going to feel and function, especially when you will need it most – during an intense exercise regimen. I hope that you like these choices and remember that you can mix and match any way you like, you don’t have to stick to any one thing all the time.

  1. Watermelon
  2. Bananas with peanut butter and honey
  3. Apple with almond butter and raisins
  4. Pineapple
  5. Almonds
  6. Peanut butter
  7. Oatmeal
  8. Oranges

You want to make sure that you are eating these foods a minimum of 45 Min – 1 hour before training. You want to consume them before you are getting off work or in your car on the way to the gym, depending on your drive time. Just be sure to account for the time when you are eating to the time that you will be training. No one likes a stitch in the side, that’s never a fun time.

As always, train hard, be a beast!
